Description
My painting was inspired by an extraordinary painter Frida Kahlo.
Kahlo made it legitimate for women to outwardly display their pains and frustrations and to thus make steps towards making sense of and understanding them. It became crucial for women artists to have a female role model and this is the gift of Frida Kahlo / https://www.theartstory.org/artist-kahlo-frida.htm
Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. In addition to belonging to the post-revolutionary Mexicayotl movement, which sought to define a Mexican identity, Kahlo has been described as a surrealist or magical realist.

This is one of the best Frida pictures i have een Tany. I feel you have captured her, the person she was. I went to the exhibit of her work in Mexico DF commemorating 100years bday, a big deal. Actually if this was in her exhibit as one of her self portraits, I would feel it was her best work by far. SO so good.

Wow, what a fantastic response, Chana! Thank you for your always thoughtful, interesting comments which I really value and appreciate as well as all your visits to my gallery. Sorry for my late replies - my life is as always too busy with too much work, schedules, etc., - wish I could spend more time here and more often.. Best wishes from Oregon.
