The original painting was inspired by the exciting cosmic event - total eclipse, and it was selected for the OSU 150 Space Grant juried exhibit taken place at the Giustina Gallery, LaSells Stewart Center, Corvallis, Oregon, during July 29th-August 30th, 2017.
The exhibit was organized to celebrate one of nature’s most incredible event, which occurred on Monday morning August 21, 2017, and it was passing directly over the place I live and through Central Oregon on its way across the nation. As a result, it was expected to attract visitors from throughout the world. About one million of spectators were in Oregon for several days to observe this extraordinary rare event.
During a total solar eclipse, the disk of the moon blocks out the last sliver of light from the sun, and the sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, becomes visible. The corona is far from an indistinct haze.
During totality, the area inside the moon's shadow is cloaked in twilight - a very strange feeling to experience in the middle of the day. Just before and just after totality, observers can see this cloak of darkness moving toward them across the landscape, and then moving away.
These effects are not visible during a partial solar eclipse.
